    Celebrating Maritime History in Nantucket

Egan Maritime Institute is a non-profit organization devoted exclusively to celebrating the rich maritime history of Nantucket Island. The institute features fine art, maritime books and shipping artifacts that capture Nantucket’s ongoing relationship with the sea. Collections and exhibits are housed in the Coffin School, an impressive 1854 Greek Revival-style building in the heart of Nantucket Town.

Egan Maritime Institute took shape when Nantucket native Albert F. Egan Jr. and his wife Dorothy H. Egan created a foundation in 1989 to showcase the island’s seafaring heritage. Since then, the institute has worked with on-island and off-island organizations to present a calendar of enlightening and entertaining programs, including lectures, films, art exhibits, concerts and symposia.

The institute also partners with community organizations, such as Nantucket Community Sailing and the Nantucket Whaleboat Rowing Club, to help visitors and residents enjoy all the island has to offer.

Join us in celebrating Nantucket’s history and seafaring character by becoming a member of the Egan Maritime Institute today.
