Breeches Buoy Demonstrations at the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum

Charmon Breeches Buoy

A Breeches Buoy is an inventive life saving device. When a ship was wrecked within a few hundred yards of the shoreline, the heroes from the life saving stations would use a small cannon to fire ropes and the Breeches Buoy out to distressed ships. Once the line was attached to the ship's mast, the crew could ride the Breeches Buoy safely to shore, much like a modern day zip line. Come see outdoor demonstrations on how this actually worked. There will be a 2nd session of this demonstration from 2:30-4:00pm today.
