Join Egan Maritime Educator Sonia Scherr for an exploration of the history and evolution of quarterboards, from their origins aboard 18th- and 19th-century ships to their place in Nantucket’s architectural landscape today. Once used to identify vessels at sea, quarterboards became closely tied to island maritime culture through shipwrecks, salvage, and tradition. Today, they remain a distinctive feature of Nantucket homes, connecting past and present through craftsmanship, storytelling, and design.
Participants can also stamp pre-made quarterboard linocut designs to create a small keepsake greeting card or dish towel.
