Egan Maritime Institute (EMI) is pleased to announce our newest community program: Maritime Day, on Saturday, September 2nd, from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm.
Curious minds of all ages are invited to drop by our Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum for free, family-friendly activities. This event brings together multiple community organizations to offer maritime-themed educational activities to celebrate the Island’s rich maritime history.
“We are excited to offer this new program for Islanders and visitors of all ages to enjoy the partnerships and educational resources of our Island’s non-profits. In particular, we are thrilled that many activities will be available in multiple languages ensuring that all community members feel welcome at the Museum,” says Carlisle Jensen, Egan Maritime’s Executive Director.
The day will start with a Nanpuppets Show at 10:30 am. The Museum will be open for free tours from 11 am – 1:30 pm. Participating partners include the Artist Association of Nantucket, Linda Loring Nature Foundation, Nantucket Coast Guard Auxiliary, Nantucket Conservation Foundation, Nantucket Historical Association, and Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals. In addition, Island Kitchen’s popular food truck will be popping in for lunch. A percentage of Island Kitchen’s proceeds will be donated to support collaborative education programs at the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum.
There is very limited parking at the Museum. We encourage attendees to ride their bikes, take the NRTA Wave, or hop on our free Shipwreck Shuttle to the Museum. The Shipwreck Shuttle will offer rides from Visitor Services starting at 10 am, with the last ride leaving town at 1 pm. The last ride back to Visitor Services will leave at 1:45 pm. Everyone who takes alternative transportation to this event will be entered into an exclusive raffle!
