Join us for Egan's 2025 Shipwreck Showtimes, a free series of films with maritime themes. Together with Nantucket Dreamland and the Nantucket Atheneum, Egan will be hosting Sunday afternoon showings of three acclaimed movies — an action drama, an animated fantasy, and a documentary — that each features a momentous voyage at sea. Previously held entirely at Egan's Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum at 158 Polpis Road, the series this year will launch at the Lifesaving Museum and move to Dreamland and then to the Atheneum.
The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition: Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m. at the Atheneum
Egan's 2025 film series concludes on April 6 at 4 p.m. with a free screening of The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition at the Nantucket Atheneum. Directed by George Butler, this 2000 documentary uses original footage and interviews with relatives of the crew to tell the true story of Ernest Shackleton's harrowing 1914 Antarctic expedition. When their ship becomes trapped and then crushed by sea ice, Shackleton and his crew must venture hundreds of miles by open boat in search of rescue.
All are welcome to participate in a 15-minute discussion following the film. Enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and snacks. No registration is required.
This year's film series is presented in partnership with Nantucket Dreamland and the Nantucket Atheneum.
