Family Day at the Museum

2017 Family Day

The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum hosted the first Family Day of the 2017 season on Tuesday, July 11. From 10am to 2pm over 200 visitors enjoyed a vast array of activities. Thanks to the generous support of the Battle Family, Family Day at the museum was free and open to all, which brought new families and island youth to the museum. New outdoor programming enhanced the day's overall offerings

Youth were able to toss a heaving line to the restored wreck pole--imitating the work of lifesavers--learning the unique skill of working with weighted ropes to achieve long distance throws. A mock Lyle Gun demonstrated the method lifesavers used to send lines far off shore to wrecked ships

The second and final Family Day at the museum will be held on Tuesday, August 8, from 10am to 2pm at 158 Polpis Road. Thanks to the generous support of Ritchie, Westray, and Katie Battle, it is free and open to the public.
