Island student, Ethan, sailed aboard Tall Ship Lynx during the summer of 2015 as a Student Mariner on a seven-day sail. Prior to this experience, he had never envisioned himself as a mariner or considered a maritime path for his future. During his Student Mariner journey, Ethan discovered what he calls his, "life's calling," working at sea.

Following graduation from Nantucket High School, Ethan enrolled at the Northeast Maritime Institute, a national and international leader in private maritime education that also collaborates with Egan Maritime and Nantucket Public Schools. To our delight, Egan Maritime has learned that following his first year, he will be spending his summer semester at sea working on a tugboat in Boston.

In addition to his marvelous summer work experience, Ethan was on deck earlier in May to give a visiting group of ten Nantucket High School students a tour of Northeast Maritime Institute. While on campus, students experienced the full-bridge simulator, tried on survival suits, toured the shipyard, and learned about the many opportunities available to them in the maritime industries. They also heard from Ethan about his experience and future plans working on the water.

Egan Maritime is grateful to recognize Northeast Maritime Institute and Nantucket Public Schools for making hands-on opportunities available to our island students, and our Sea of Opportunities donors whose loyal support ensures maritime education is part of every local youth's school career. Your combined efforts and participation are transforming the futures of island students all the while strengthening our maritime community. Thank you.
