Local Nantucket actors gave dramatic readings of famous Cape and Islands shipwreck stories, like that of the W.F. Marshall or the Andrea Doria. Between each story, local musicians joined the actors in singing lively sea shanties used by sailors to stay synchronized while working on a ship. The evening was particularly poignant because it is held in the Shannon Gallery surrounded by shipwreck memorabilia. A Massachusetts Humane Society Lifesaving Boat and the Coskata Lifesaving Station Surfboat, along with many quarterboards that washed up on Nantucket’s shores created an enchanting maritime setting to inspire guest’s imagination. It truly was a special event.
An Evening of Shipwreck Stories was made possible in part by the generous support of Anderson’s Stillwater Moorings, LLC.
