This year has been transformational for Egan Maritime Institute. Nantucket’s shores are ever-changing, but we at Egan Maritime love to keep ahead of the changing seas. We hope you will join us by donating to support our year-end appeal.
With your support, we are working to enhance the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum to facilitate the improved and expanded delivery of our community programs. This summer, we welcomed 9,000 visitors of all ages, who had the opportunity to learn about our Island’s rich maritime history through visits to the museum and participation in free community outreach programs.
Over the past year, we offered free experiential education classes to over 500 local students. As part of our new strategic vision, we are enhancing our Sea of Opportunities programming and exposing local students to careers on the water and postsecondary opportunities in the maritime field. Your support opens doors for local youth to educational and career opportunities that will enhance their futures and our coastal community.
On the water, 817 mariners of all ages climbed aboard the Tall Ship Lynx. The 2023 season included one very special 5-day adventure sail for Nantucket High School students, all English language learners. Our challenge was to expose the students to Tall Ship sailing in ways everyone could understand. Nonetheless, the trip was one of the best! As the Lynx pulled back into Nantucket’s harbor, our student mariners were grinning ear to ear and heaving the lines with ease. One student, in particular, is now enrolled in our high school course and is applying to maritime institutions to pursue a career on the water.
All our community outreach programs are free, thanks to the generosity of our members, donors, and friends. Please give generously. Your gift will allow us to continue to offer no-cost educational programs for the Island’s youth and to invigorate our mission through programming in the community, in the classroom, and on the water.
