Bringing Nantucket's History to Life!

It’s been another inspiring year at Egan Maritime. Nantucket’s shores are ever-changing, but we at Egan Maritime love to keep ahead of the changing seas.

With your support, we accomplished the most extensive renovation at the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum since reopening our doors in 2008. The new Rosenthal

boathouse exhibit has improved and expanded the delivery of our community programs. The updated interpretation has allowed us to display more artifacts and tell more in-depth stories to all visitors. Our work is not done yet; we plan to continue bringing new life to the property at 158 Polpis Road.

Over the past year, we offered free experiential education classes to over 600 local students. As part of our new strategic vision, we are enhancing our educational programming, exposing local students to Nantucket’s rich maritime history, and expanding our offerings to include high-school-level programming that introduces students to careers on the water and postsecondary opportunities in the maritime field.

On the water, 817 mariners of all ages climbed aboard the Tall Ship Lynx. As usual, our overnight sails continue to be life-changing. It is hard to articulate the impact of these sails. Witnessing the transformation of our Student Mariners, who start with little to no sailing experience, into graceful and confident sailors is nothing short of magical.

While the numbers are impressive, sometimes our work is less about the numbers and more about the stories. It's about a high school senior who experienced an ah-ha moment while dissecting a scallop. The joy on the face of a child when they realize the cool medal at the Museum is her great-great grandpop’s. Or it’s the fourth grader who is afraid of the water but overcomes their fear and ends up heaving lines with ease.

All our community outreach programs are free, thanks to the generosity of our members, donors, and friends. Please give generously. Your gift will allow us to continue offering no-cost educational programs for the Island’s youth and invigorate our mission through programming in the community, the classroom, and the water.

Sincerely,

Cynthia McClintock, President, Board of Trustees
